April Lockhart
April Lockhart (born July 4 in 1995) started her musical journey in the 7th grade when she started piano and guitar classes. At the age of seven, April began taking piano and guitar lessons. It sparked her interest to write songs. At the age of 14, April spent a lot of time in writing song ideas and practicing her musical skills. Then, she began to take trips across NY and LA with her Dad so that they could both compose songs. April began including other topics in the book, Take My Hand, for her friends who were dealing in the face of peer pressure, disability or even suicide. Lockhart also enjoys an increasing popularity as a lifestyle influencer and works for popular Clean Beauty company Ilia. Her birth was without a left hand. It's part of who she is--but that's not the entire story. Lockhart's profile on Instagram doesn't conceal her handicap, but it doesn't focus solely on her disability. What's the message? that we are all a part of a multitude that our identities are complex and that we are greater than the physical person we are. Lockhart states in the video Lockhart via video "I don't think that will define me. My goal is not to be an influencer on disability, because I've many more things to contribute." My daily life isn't dependent on it. I live my normal daily life, and come up with my own solutions to problems. However, I also consider it a very important component of my life. Self-acceptance is a long marathon however Lockhart is an absolute inspiration on that front. However, she admits that she has had periods that made her feel uncomfortable about her appearance and wearing clothing with arms. The woman now puts on whatever clothes she wants and posts pictures on her Facebook page with pride. She says that self-love is a process. It's hard to say if you'll ever reach the final stage. However, I believe that's the case for everyone, whatever they are struggling with. I think it's important to surround yourself with those who can see and know your true heart.
